Join in community on Sunday, October 5th, 12 pm - 4 p.m. for a heartfelt Unity Day that honours Truth and Reconciliation. We invite both Indigenous and non‑Indigenous friends to share in an afternoon of learning, healing and celebration on our journey toward reconciliation.

A Feast Steeped in Tradition

The day begins with a lunch BBQ featuring moose meat provided by Pat Gatz, aka Chief Little Eagle of the Algonquin Nation. This generous gift will be paired with fresh salads, roasted potatoes, decadent desserts and other homemade sides. Sharing food is a way of gathering in circle, honouring the earth and each other.

Medicine Wheel Journey

Chief Little Eagle will guide participants on a Medicine Wheel Journey. The Medicine Wheel is more than a symbol; its circle represents the alignment and continuous interaction of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual realities. The colours and directions speak to interconnectedness—reminding us that every person and every part of Creation has a role to play. Many nations teach that the circle is an individual’s “circle of awareness”offering us knowledge to walk our own path. Taking part in the Medicine Wheel Journey allows guests to connect with these teachings, reflect on personal growth and understand that healing requires balance in all aspects of life.

Healing Intergenerational Trauma – Together

Intergenerational trauma occurs when unresolved pain is passed from one generation to the next; when trauma is ignored, unhealthy ways of coping can be taught to children without anyone realising it. This reality touches both indigenous and non‑ndigenous families. Indigenous communities have endured colonial policies that separated children from their families and attempted to erase language and culture. Scholars note that healing must honour historic context and respect balance between the spiritual, emotional, physical and social realms. However, non‑Indigenous peoples also carry generational wounds—from wars, forced migration or family violence. Unity Day invites everyone to acknowledge that while our histories differ, we all have ancestral pain to heal and can draw strength from traditional teachings and somatic practices together.

Wellness & Somatic Practices

Beyond the Medicine Wheel, the day offers breathwork and hot/cold contrast sessions—simple yet powerful somatic practices that help release stored stress and trauma. Engaging the body through regulated breathing and temperature contrast can calm the nervous system and support emotional healing. These sessions will be facilitated in a supportive environment where participants can learn techniques to continue their healing journey beyond this event.

Honouring Every Child Matters

A portion of the day’s proceeds will be donated to the Every Child Matters initiative, supporting survivors of residential schools and honouring children who never returned home. Chief Little Eagle has also designed the Truth & Reconciliation Pin. This symbol of unity, truth and reconciliation will be available for purchase, much like the poppy worn on Remembrance Day. Buying this little golden eagle feather pin honours the children whose lives were forever altered and helps ensure that their stories are not forgotten.

Join us

Unity Day is about coming together—sharing food, stories and practices that foster healing for all. By acknowledging the past and standing together in the present, we can build a future rooted in mutual respect and understanding. We hope to see you on Sunday, October 5th for an afternoon of nourishment, learning and community. Children 12 and under are FREE to attend!
